HERE ARE MY MODS
I think that all the modifications that one has done must make his or her riding easier and better. If you modified your board and it didn't make you happy, put it back to what it was.
Bushing: Tech Deck makes ugly bushings. Don't you think? You can make your own rubber bushings by using rubber stopper or whatever you like. (mouse pad, eraser, thick rubber bands, O-ring)Just cut them to size using scissors and use a pin to poke holes through. It's kinda hard to put them to the kingpin but a little pushing will work. You can buy them too but why spend when you can make your own.
Pop: You can adjust the angle of the nose and tail of your board depending on what you like. I got mine just a little bit higher than the usual angle the board has. You can do this by placing a lighter just below the tail or nose on the graphics side. This will damage the graphics a little but the result is really good. Hold the flame just about ten seconds. This will make it easier to bend. Bend the tail or nose to your desired height.
Pivot Cap: Does your trucks keep on waving from side to side? You can fix this by making your own pivot cap. I used rubber to make my own. I just sliced about 1 mm thick of rubber and cut it to a circular shape. I placed this o the hole where the truck meets the board. This will hold the truck in place. Try it.
Riser Pads: You can have better shock absorption by making your own riser pads. This also raises the deck a bit. To make one, cut about 2mm thick of rubber. Cut this to a rectangular shape that fits the part where the kingpin stays. Poke holes on the corners so that the screws pass through. Fit it to your deck and feel the difference.
Graphics: If you want to make your own design, you can. First erase the origial graphics by using acetone (the one your sister uses to take off nail polish)put a small amount on a cotton ball and wipe the graphics away cleanly. Now you have a blank board. Don't worry coz this won't melt the plastic. If it does its not acetone. To make your own design simply print it on a sticker paper and stick it to your blank board. Remember to print it to the right size.
Wheels: Got plastic? Make your own bearing wheels. You can buy small bearings from a TAMIYA shop. This fits just right on the axle. But its circumference is a little smaller than techdeck wheels. To make it just right, simply put rubber around it which you can also purchase from a Tamiya shop. It has nice grip too! Try it.
Axle: Does your axle always break or fall? Well here's a simple solution. The next time it falls off, you must have an instant glue in hand. Put a tiny amount of instant glue (its a clear super glue) on the hole where the axle it supposed to be. Then quickly, place the axle back without the wheels first. Use a small hammer to chip it through. Don't pound on it hard. Just chip slowly but surely. Let it dry and put the wheels back. It will never fall again. Plus its strong enough even if your deck falls it wont break.
Grip: To change your grip first take off the worn out grip. Do this by using your fingernails or you can use any flat strong material to scrape it off like a flat screw driver. Get the new grip tape which you can purchase from a skateshop or those extra grip tape from your friends. Cut it to size and stick it. Brand new!!! grip tape.
Loose Screws: Change it! When you buy a Tech Deck it has a warning. It says "do not overtighten knots". So, to prevent loose screws, do not overtighten the knots
Weight: It really depends on your style. I have a heavier fboard than what you get from a brand new fb. I like it heavier because I can control it better. Lighter fb for me tends to flip too much on the strength I use. I know some people who like lighter fboards because they control it better. It depends. |
